better late than never
NAME: merrymelody
ABOUT ME: I'm under the same name at ao3, tumblr and livejournal. Read the books as a sprout (I'm from the UK, so we got the weird covers!), and lockdown prompted me to have a nostalgic reread. I used to lurk in the Fametracker forum for the BSC, if anyone else is ancient enough to remember that.
FAVOURITE BSC CHARACTER(s): I tend to prefer the Claudia and Mallory books; as far as spin-offs go, I like Sunny Winslow; and for charges, Marnie Barrett and Emily Michelle were sweet.
LEAST FAVOURITE BSC CHARACTER(s): Mary Anne's plots tend to bore me; for spin-offs, CaliforniaDiaries!Dawn can be A Lot; likewise Karen Brewer for charges.
FAVOURITE BSC BOOK(s): I love the first thirty or so Ann ones, as they're the ones I remember best. Also got a fondness for 'Jessi and the Horrible Prank', 'Stacey and the Bad Girls', 'Kristy at Bat' and 'Welcome Home, Mary Anne'.
LEAST FAVOURITE BSC BOOK(s): The Normal Hill subplot in Dawn's Big Date is pretty bleak, and I'm not really into the mysteries, the Little Sister books, or anything with a heavy concentration of Krushers, Logan or Tigger.
FAVOURITE PLOT/SUBPLOT: I love the 'hey, dating isn't the be-all and end all' in Abby's Unvalentine, the exploration of casual sexism in 'Don’t give up Mallory', Claudia's junk food art show, and Mallory owning the BSC in 'Hello Mallory' for that mean interview they gave her.
FAVOURITE PAIRING(s): There's nothing I wouldn’t read, really. I tend to prefer slash to het in this fandom, but I've enjoyed fics with any combination of the leads, not to mention minor characters like Ashley/Claudia, Cokie/Kristy, Byron/Jeff, and Sunny/Dawn.
FAVOURITE FAMILY: The Kishis, purely on strength of Janine and Mimi. (We'd clash over the junk food/junk books policy!)
