Read Through: BSC #2 - Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls

CLAUDIA'S NOT SURE SHE WANTS TO FIND OUT
WHO'S ON THE OTHER END OF THE LINE.

Welcome to the discussion post for week two! I hope nobody minds that it's up a bit early. It's Mother's Day here tomorrow so I won't get a chance to put the post up. If our FIRST discussion post was anything to go by, people will be in and out over the next few days. :)

Don't panic if you haven't finished Claudia and the Phantom Phonecalls yet - we're all in different time zones, so things will be a little bit staggered. The post doesn't have an expiry date on it, so just comment whenever you're ready.

This is the post to discuss your reading of Claudia and the Phantom Phonecalls.

What was your favourite part? What was your least favourite part? Any memorable quotes you'd like to share? What had you forgotten about since the last time this book was read? If someone wrote a fic set during the timeline of this fic, what should they write?

There are no mandatory questions or points of discussion for this - anything you want to talk about in relation to this week's book, go ahead!

Next week's book is BSC #3 - The Truth About Stacey

Oh my GOD, and the mom had that horrid aunt friend who kept nagging at Deenie not to ‘waste her face’! So appalling, especially when I reread it as an adult. It was so cathartic when Deenie and her sister both started fighting back and saying they’d both had enough.

and Kristy starts to sound like a teacher, so she gets really anxious and touchy about not knowing the answers to questions :(
Oh, I didn’t even think of that! Come to think of it, she always got the books where, one way or another, her trust in adults gets tainted. :( The cheating book, the racism one, and the one where the kids are being abused, just to name a few.

Janine gets encouraged to be really into academics, but when it comes to Claudia they're like "um...".
That makes a lot of sense. I think after Mimi died, Janine stepped up as the member of the family who always encouraged Claudia’s talents. I was reading bits of Claudia Kishi, Live From WSTO, and John (is that his name? I forget) and Rioko have their usual “um…” reaction to the radio job, while Janine...gets out the drinks to celebrate. : )

Ugh, YES, I forgot about that friend D: I actually found it really heartwarming when Helen was being all "you don't have to be what she tells you to be, Deenie!" (I seem to remember a big fight at the end?) Like, despite being pitted against her sister ever since she was born, when it came down to it Helen was there for her. <3

I'm not sure I ever read the WSTO one, but awwww <3
