I think what I like most about this book is how girly Kristy is - oohing and aahing over her bridesmaid's dress (and first pair of heels!) and the dress that she wore to the rehearsal dinner. I always liked the picture on the original cover of the book. She does look good in yellow =)

My favorite scene with the kids was probably the mock wedding. I also loved the interpretation of it in the BSC TV series - hilarious!!

And, of course, all the ooey-gooey Thomas family stuff ♥ Nannie and her Pink Clinker, the cousins we never see again, learning Mrs. Thomas is the oldest of her siblings (apparently). And what in the world could "Theo" be short for as a girl's name? Inquiring minds want to know! :P

I can't really come up with much to comment on with this one. Kristy seems to be finishing up her reconciliation of her mother remarrying, even if it ends up being quick (which was probably better than drawing it out all summer, for Kristy).

It's nice to have a new group of kids at least for a book.

The last scene with the four Thomas siblings is really lovely.

I still have to go back and comment on the last few books and I hope I'll actually get to that sometime, but I'll say this again: I am so, so enjoying the real-ness of the characters in these early books. They've all got so much more nuance than I remembered/than they had later on.

And now, some comments about this book in particular:

Hey, it's the first BSC day camp!! I know that part of being in BSC fandom is snarking about how this group of 13-year-olds manages to make their whole existence revolve around the neighbourhood kids and how maybe that's unrealistic and weird (because to the extent that it happens in the later books, it is unrealistic and weird), but here? Damn, these girls are just really kick-ass babysitters. So that's kinda cool.

Okay, let's see what else. Karen. She's irritating, but she's also reading very true as a really bright but probably-struggling-with-ADHD kind of kid. Like, I can empathize because I kind of was that kind of kid, but also I am endlessly thankful that she is not a real kid that I have to spend actual real-life time with, haha.

This is the book where we learn one of my fave facts about Stacey: that her all-time favourite movie is Mary Poppins. Well, all I have to say about that is sing it, sister!!, because it's my all-time favourite movie too.

The mock-wedding. I mean, apart from the fact that getting a bunch of kids to stage a mock-wedding is painfully heteronormative and hurts my 2013-queer-activist brain... in the context of the book, oh my god, it's adorable and hilarious.
