Read Through: BSC #16 - Jessi's Secret Language

Argh, I've fallen behind again! I need to catch up, next week's book is one of my favourites.

Jessi's Secret Language

JESSI'S LEARNING A SECRET LANGUAGE FOR A VERY SPECIAL CHILD

Welcome to the discussion post for Jessi's Secret Language! This post doesn't have an expiry date on it, so just comment whenever you're ready.

What was your favourite part? What was your least favourite part? Any memorable quotes you'd like to share? What had you forgotten about since the last time this book was read? If someone wrote a fic set during the timeline of this fic, what should they write?

There are no mandatory questions or points of discussion for this - anything you want to talk about in relation to this week's book, go ahead!

Next week's book is BSC #17 - Mary Anne's Bad Luck Mystery

-I really like how cozy the Ramseys are. I think they’re the most touchy-feely BSC family so far. Loving the details that are emerging too: Mrs Ramsey listening for Jessi every morning, Mr Ramsey being a super expressive talker , Becca and her collections.

-Mr. Millikan is the principal of the school Becca went to in New Jersey. The resemblance of the rock to his nose is really amazing. In Oakley, if you asked anybody what the rock looked like, they’d say right away, “Millikan’s nose.” this is so mean but so funny omg

-ok I never remembered Jessi’s parents names so I just looked it up in the Complete Guide, and apparently it’s John and Janice! Good to know.

(it also informs me that John Ramsey sounds exactly like James Earl Jones. Hee.)

-it never really occurred to me before that Jessi practices in Stacey’s old basement (that used to have a Ping-Pong table in it! Is it still there, and why am I so interested lol.)

-poor Haley, it must be rough. On the plus side, we’ve got the start of the Haley-Vanessa friendship. The Pikes are just so great. I love how seamlessly Matt fit in with them and they didn’t make a big deal out of it.

-“That doesn’t make any sense to me. Matt’s not special, he’s just different.”
“He is too special!” cried Haley.

awwwwwww

-I was really intrigued by all the described ASL signs as a kid. I wonder how well this book holds up. Based on the dedication, it looks like AMM used a sensitivity reader for this one. (Damn, if only they’d done the same with the book about Susan…)

- Karen putting out invisible ghost pate is actually pretty cute! And I love David Michael telling Andrew not to worry about her stories.

-heh, so this book implies that Logan just sometimes calls up to check on the BSC? Why do I find the mental image of him solo-babysitting for Squirt so cute?

-foreshadowing for Emily Michelle! Mind you, I’m still weirded out by how she was just a “surprise” and Watson & Edie didn’t consult the kids first.

-awww at everything with Katie Beth and Adele. And the roses onstage! <3 Wow at their parents though – why wouldn’t you jump at a chance to communicate with your kid? : /

-Keisha and Mal were always friendly. I like that.

-I think this is the second reference to Claud loving butterscotch sundae. :D

I didn't know Jessie's parents' names either! (And I can't believe I didn't at least connect the fact that Squirt is a junior...)

I believe the ping pong table was bought by the Perkinses! At the very lest, it was sold at the yard sale.
