nggggl I’m so stupidly behind on this reread ~
Maybe the title is supposed to be referencing pageant announcers being like "And the winner is...[contestant]!" idk. I never got it.
-I never reread this one much. The Jeff subplot was just too sad. My heart breaks for Dawn but especially Sharon – this is gonna happen to her TWICE, poor thing
“Sometimes,” I said, “I feel more like your sister than your daughter.”
“Funny. I feel more like your sister than your mother.”
Like…awwww, my heart. But also OUCH, my heart! Knowing what’s coming.
-Anyway, every YA book I’ve ever read about a pageant is upfront about how sexist they actually are. Pretty interesting how every single one of them acknowledge that they know it’s sexist but go through with entering their kid anyway.
-Well, except Mal and Jessi. I love how they were both so vehemently opposed to the pageant!
-hah, the girls have now gravitated towards what I call their meeting-mode positions. Kristy in the chair, Mallory and Jessi on the floor (usually fiddling with something or other), and the other three on the bed. And, when Stacey comes back, she’ll be with MA and Claudia on the bed and Dawn moves to Claud’s desk chair.
The useless random trivia I’ve retained from BSC, I s2g
-I’m glad that things didn’t explode into TOO big a fight this time. I mean, they did get competitive but not to the point where there had to be apologies after.
-big LOL at David Michael kidnapping Andrew from Let’s All Come In. Its cute how this isa a shoutout to him talking about Old Bad John in SS1.
-couldn’t stop cracking up at Claire and Margo’s talents! And at 2/3 of the triplets constantly trolling them. And yay to them for being themselves during the questions instead of goody-goody pageant-heads!
-that said, Myriah’s answer is adorable despite being manufactured. “Now you stop that!” And yeah – who’d wanna graduate on to another contest when you could have a toy shopping spree!
“Are you sure you don’t want to sing a different song?” I asked her, just to be sure. “Like ‘Tomorrow’ or ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’?”
-hah, Claire gets a Somewhere Over The Rainbow obsession in one of the mysteries. Don’t worry, Dawn, it’s coming.
/whoops, fixed my comment. *facepalm*
